What is the law of attraction? = The Secret

I think I came to find out about the Law of Attraction embarrassingly late in life.  It was during a conversation with my hairdresser about three years ago that I came to realise that I was missing out on ‘The Secret’ of living an abundant life instead of feeling as if I was fighting the tide all the time.

I have to admit I was immediately fascinated with the idea of my life changing direction.  To say the previous few years had been turbulent was an understatement so I decided to take the plunge and purchase ‘The Secret’ DVD.  It cost a few pounds here in the UK but I figured that it was cheaper than therapy and if nothing else it could give me some pointers about what needed to be done to effect change.

What is the law of attraction?

What is the law of attraction? Energy

I think my most startling revelation is that The Law of Attraction is basically about energy.  We, as humans, are made of energy and we live and work within one large energy field called Planet Earth.

I’ve always been very good at picking up on ‘bad vibes’.  Even as a small child I seemed to have an innate ability to sense when someone wasn’t genuine or was trying to hide something.  For me, it was just a feeling and I didn’t really make the connection with ‘energy’.

I have been told that my I.Q is very high but that being said, I don’t think I had really grasped the concept that The Law of Attraction is working within us and around us at all times.  Your thoughts [your energy fields] have an actual, measureable frequency and it’s been scientifically proven that a positive thought is more powerful than a negative one.

So, in a nutshell, how we think affects how our lives unfold.  If we expect something bad to happen then that’s what will show up.  On the other hand, if you start out your day in a positive head space then you will continue to attract good things to you.

What is the law of attraction? Think of yourself as a magnet

Practice makes perfect as we’re all guilty of slipping into a negative frame of mind.  You know the situations:  stubbing your toe when you get out of bed, spilling your face powder down your white shirt, feeling that bit of road rage on the way to work or getting angry over that annoying email waiting in your inbox.  The trick is not to get eaten up by the negativity in that moment because if you do it can create a downward spiral of stuff that just seems to keep going wrong.

You really do have to be present and aware of your thoughts which can feel like a chore at first.  However, it does get easier as time goes on.  If you think of yourself as a magnet then you are imagining that you’re attracting what you want into your life as opposed to pushing away and fighting what you don’t want.

What is the law of attraction? An example you will recognise

A good example to highlight is Donald Trump’s surprise presidential election win.  So many people were against him: people talked about him, laughed about him, ridiculed him and repeatedly said that he ‘couldn’t possibly win’.

This is where I see the Law of Attraction working at its best.  The Law of Attraction isn’t operating on the basis of whether Donald Trump is good, bad, mediocre or anything in between.  What’s working here is energy and energy goes where attention flows.  Donald Trump definitely got a lot of attention and so, in turn, he got all the energy which in my mind resulted in his successful election win.

If people had really known how The Law of Attraction worked then they should have focussed much more on who they wanted to win.  So, instead of attending a rally to campaign against Donald Trump, they should have gone to a rally in support of his opposition, Hillary Clinton. See?  It’s that simple.

On a smaller scale, I suppose I have worked with the Law of Attraction in previous years but without really realising it.  When I’ve been at work and see members of staff being rude and aggressive on the telephone there is only ever one response to that:  a rude and aggressive reaction.  I have always got much further using the ‘kill with kindness policy’: a positive and upbeat manner will always get more out of people as they just want to fall over themselves to please you.

What is the law of attraction? How it worked for me

I’ve watched The Secret DVD a few times as we all lapse and I revisit it frequently in order to remind myself what I need to be doing and to dig myself out of any bad habits I’ve gone back to.

Strangely, every time I’ve finished watching the DVD, I’ve had one or two very positive things happen.  I’m not going to say you will be making huge changes quickly but like me, I think you will notice subtle shifts in your everyday life.

When I watched the DVD again on the Easter weekend, I made notes and felt myself realigning with how I ‘needed to be’ within myself.  About 40 minutes after I turned off the DVD, I found a message waiting for me in Facebook from someone interested in my online tuition services for the 11+ examination.  This is exactly what I had been looking to achieve  They were based in America and I am in the UK.   Not only that, but they also asked whether I had particular experience of a very specific exam format which is exactly what I had been hoping would happen.

The day after, I received an email to say I had won a competition that I had been thinking about a lot [as I’d been going through a dry spell!] as I love comping and really wanted to win.  It wasn’t a massive prize but a magnum of champagne is always welcome in my opinion!

Then to top it all off, after hoping I would one day be able to see the very lovely Adam Lambert perform with Queen in the UK, I discovered that tickets are available for a UK tour and yes, I have managed to bag one!

These are all small things but they have made me feel much more positive and happier than I have felt for a while.  I am grateful for these small things.

This is important because you have to feel good within yourself and be grateful for what you have already, in order for energy to work in the right way for you.

What is the law of attraction? Simple ways to help you attract

We live in busy times where life is moving at a million miles per hour.  Here are a few tips to help keep you on track: –

  1. Do think of yourself as a magnet pulling in all the things you want the universe to bring your way.  Concentrate on what you want and not what you don’t want.
  2. Be present in the moment.  Listen to your thoughts and stop negative thoughts in their tracks.  Replace the negative thought with a positive thought.  You can stop yourself spiralling.
  3. Visualise what you want. Ask the universe for it, believe it is coming and then receive it.  Using a physical pin board or Pinterest is a great way to start manifesting what you want.
  4. Set time aside to visualise.  Instead of using your bathtub soak at night thinking about how much you hate your job, close your eyes and start thinking about what you want to do with your life.  Put reminders on your fridge, in your car or wherever and get into the habit of thinking in the ‘right way’.
  5. Look at other people and how they have used the Law of Attraction.  I have watched people such as  Jim Carrey and Adam Lambert with avid fascination.  They are two excellent examples and have discussed how they manifested their dreams with another favourite of mine, Oprah Winfrey.
  6. Be specific about what you are grateful for and what you want.  Write it down in a journal and in the present tense.  Instead of saying, ‘I want to be rich’ you could say ‘I am rich and have at least £2000 of income coming into my account every month’.  This last example is written in the present tense, is specific and should be realistic to your current circumstances.

What is the law of attraction? The final word

Don’t give up whatever you do!  You need to persevere and you need to keep yourself aligned with what you really want.  Keep yourself in check and let the energy start flowing for you!
