I love a lifehack: anything that can get something done quicker or save you from disaster.  Here are some of my favourites.

7 Brilliant Lifehacks for the home – #1 WD40

It’s not just for squeaky chairs or sticky locks.

My mum uses WD40 to polish her garage doors to a miraculous glossy shine that also repels water.  But did you know you can use it to remove chewing gum from hair and as an insect repellant in your home?

Take a look at this article for more of its amazing uses!

7 Brilliant Lifehacks for the home – #2 Vicks Vapo Rub

A staple in my home for years but this mixture of eucalyptus, menthol, camphor, and other ingredients in a petroleum base is useful for a myriad of other minor issues too.

Instead of reaching for the headache pills you can massage a little bit of VapoRub at your temples for pain relief.

If you’ve got a fungal infection in your nails or warts then VapoRub can also be used to get rid of those pesky ailments too.  You can even use it to house train your pets.

7 Brilliant Lifehacks for the home – #3 Toothpaste

Not just for your teeth …

Toothpaste can be dabbed onto spots to help dry them out.  This is a well known trick in the beauty industry.  If you get a pesky zit then this is a great tip for the occasional breakout.

it can also be rubbed onto silver then buffed off with a cloth or paper towel.  This is way cheaper than buying expensive silver cleaner especially if you just have a few bits that need a good polish.

Toothpaste can even reveal if your dog has corns on the pads of its paws!  Take a look at the article on the amazing Supervet’s website.

7 Brilliant Lifehacks for the home – #4 Soap

Not just for fragrancing your drawers and washing hands.

If you’ve got a stiff zipper hold the material taut and rub the soap front and back then see how freely that zip moves!

7 Brilliant Lifehacks for the home – #5 A giant paperclip

How many times have you struggled to fasten that bracelet only to give up in frustration after your fifteenth attempt?

I know I have and what’s more, I’ve often consigned those bracelets into drawers never to be seen again.

Well, since discovering this trick I think you’ll find you’ll never encounter the problem again.  Just unfold the giant clip into an ‘S’ shape [see picture], hook your bracelet through the bottom and hold the top with your fingers.  Then, simply clip the other end onto the clasp.

7 Brilliant Lifehacks for the home – #6 Newspaper [black and white print only]

Not just fabulous for cleaning windows!

If you’ve run out of shoe polish, scrunch up some newspaper and buff up your leather shoes to a fantastic shine.

No excuses for dirty shoes.  Remember that people really do judge us on first impressions so don’t let yourself down if you know this handly little trick.

7 Brilliant Lifehacks for the home – #7 Baby powder

Got knotted jewellery chains?

Yep, me too and they drive me mad.

Shake powder onto the knot in the chain and then tease it open with a pin or a needle.  Makes the job a whole lot easier.

I would love to hear from you if you have any great tips to share!

Here’s to life on your terms,
